Here are examples of projects that I’ve worked on (and led) over the years that are relevant to the work in our district. I didn’t always get every decision right, but I can bring my experience and expertise to bear on behalf of our families and students.
Career Pathways
As a technical advisor to workforce intermediaries in the South Bronx, I worked to develop pathways for young people into high-growth job sectors. The work included supporting partner organizations with implementation, creating a learning agenda and capturing of best practices, and developing a policy and advocacy agenda.
NYCMenTeach
As part of an effort to increase diversity within the teaching force, I worked on an initiative to recruit and retain 1,000 male teachers of color in New York City. The work included broadening recruitment strategies, retooling hiring protocols, and shifting school culture to ensure teachers of color remain in the profession and further develop their teaching craft.
IDEA Committee
The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Advocacy (IDEA) Committee at Upper Nyack creates a forum for parents to discuss issues of equity within our schools. We also run educational programming highlighting equity work from organizations such as Brotherhood SisterSol and the Riverdale Country School.
